Interview for SPELLERS: The Movie

Most of this ended up on the cutting room floor so I’m delighted to share the full interview that Samuel did with Pat Notaro III for SPELLERS: The Movie!
IT REALLY MADE MY DAY WHEN YOU ASKED TO FILM ME. I’M HONORED TO BE IN IT.
Pat: We’re honored to have you in it and you’re just a rock star! I saw the early videos of you at the conference and was blown away by what you’ve accomplished.
DM: This movie is going to release a tsunami of spellers. By the way, Sam’s doing a mission for his church!
MY RELIGION PUTS MUCH EMPHASIS ON SERVICE.
Pat: It’s rad you get to do it!
HEARING TOMORROW THERE WILL BE A TSUNAMI OF NONSPEAKERS SPELLING MAKES MY SOUL SING.
Pat: You’re a poet too, man!
DM: Do you have a message for all those nonspeakers?
CONTINUE TO WORK HARD EVERY DAY AND THIS WILL GET EASIER.
Pat: I’ve asked other spellers if they could describe how hard letterboarding is for them. One said it’s like climbing up the down escalator. What’s it like for you?
IT’S LIKE RUNNING THROUGH QUICKSAND WITH SHOELACES TIED TOGETHER.
Pat: Do you have a message for the critics and nonbelievers?
ROGUE BODIES NEED INTENSIVE SUPPORT TO COMMUNICATE.
DM: Well said! Where would you be if we had waited for you to be able to type on a fixed keyboard?
Mom: So true! Even with just a couple of words on giant foam letters, like MASSACHUSETTS and LOVE, I realized that you were in there and started involving you in age-appropriate activities.
AMEN, MOM.
